I was introduced to whale tails from David Weiss in 1997 by Tom Price and I've been using these tools ever since. Often imitated but never duplicated, David was the innovator of the whale tail design. If you are not familiar with whale tails, they are used for repairing dents within braced areas by using a twisting action and it may take some practice to become familiar with their use. Most techs have used wire tools and while they are effective for brace work they can twist over and snap the paint under certain circumstances. Whale tails are unlikely to twist unless you are trying to drive a large dent at the edge of a brace. As for side panels, these tools are a must have for repairing dents in doors where the damage is in the braced areas such as the door beam. Wire tools simply are not as effective in these areas.

Their are many variations in tips that whale tails come in as you can see in the photo below. The Euro Tip is highly recommended as it is a proven design and will provide great access in glued braces and drives a dent very well. Some of the tips are serrated to allow the glue to be cut more effectively by the tool, but this usually is not necessary. I do not recommend the tips that have serrations on the sides as this creates a weakness in the tool which can lead to breakage while driving a dent. David no longer manufactures the tools with the serrations on the sides. When you place your order, you should specify how flexible a tool you would like. Most often you will want a tool that is not too flexible.

The following tools are highly recommended:

WH10 The 25" Euro Weissenheimer

WH15 The 36" Euro Weissenheimer

WH32 The 50" Euro Weissenheimer, firm shaft

WH26 Euro 2 Bend Skinny Strong (approx. 27 inches)

If you mention the dent network, Specific Body Tools will provide 10% off the individual tools.
